I was infected in 1990 by my now ex-husband, who later abandoned our young son and me when I was at my sickest point.

Thankfully, my son was not born with HIV, because I was part of the Washington Study while pregnant. However, he was born with diabetes (DEND syndrome) and had seizures at 5 months old that left him brain damaged.

Life's journey has been hard, but by the grace of God also rewarding. To this day, I stay involved with the HIV/AIDS community, because there is much work still to be done.

My heart goes out to all those infected and affected by this virus.
